CARVING ALL MOUNTAIN SKIING

This section is all about carving change of direction using the whole ski. The back of the ski follows the front of ski in the same track leaving one clean clear line in the snow - have a look at some of the pictures - see if you can see where the ski's just been.

If you have ever roller-bladed or ice skated then you will know that if you dip your ankles inwards and you'll go round a corner. Another analogy is when riding a bicycle if you have some momentum then you can turn simply by moving the bike inwards not by turning the wheel. This is what carving is all about - using the shape and design of the ski to go around curves practise on flat/gentle terrain.

Raise hips up and forward to start the new turn and to get a clean crossover clean change of edge. Use all ski joints progressively (ankles, knees and hips). Try and hold a strong upper body and be softer through the legs from the middle to the end of turn to get a clean change of edges.
