DEEP SNOW ALL MOUNTAIN SKIING

This section is all about making those effortless turns through untracked powder snow.......This section will help give you some basic advice to set you on the road of discovery!!

Speed/momentum is your best friend - it helps you turn. Let the ski's run down the hill before you try to turn them. For this select a section of slope not too steep (really important otherwise you'll go too fast) or ideally not too deep (ankle depth). You ski's will travel slower through powder so don't be in a hurry - be patient and keep your movements smooth.

Be aware of keeping both skis evenly weighted through the center of feet. Practise pressing both feet so they reach equal depth in the snow - try on a gentle slope in a traverse.

Pole plant as you start to feel the snow building up underneath your feet/skis, this helps keep your hips up and over your feet and will enable a good range of movements in your legs.

Remember to try and link the turns - go from one to another so you can establish some rhythm.

Equipment: modern off-piste skis make a huge difference because they are generally much wider (fatter) under the foot so they don't sink in as deep. So go fat and don't look back!!
